Horst Seifart

Horst Seifart (born February 16, 1916 in Reinbek ; † October 2, 2004 in Bleckede ) was a German journalist , television director and sports scientist .

Life

The active track and field athlete Seifart studied German, sports science and psychology. In 1951 he joined the North German Broadcasting Corporation in Hamburg - initially as a freelancer . In 1967 he became head of the main sports department. His predecessor was Herbert Zimmermann, a legendary sports reporter . Seifart himself preferred to work behind a microphone and camera.

He was married and had two children.

Services

Horst Seifart is considered a television pioneer. He was the first to develop formats for major international sports competitions, such as soccer world championships and live reporting. But he was also particularly committed to programs about not so popular sports. As the long-time program director of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) for major sporting events, he worked across national borders.

1972 Olympic Games

For the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich , Robert E. Lembke, the managing director of the German Olympic Center (DOZ) hired the sports journalist as a “world director”. Seifart used the hitherto unheard-of number of 90 cameras in 24 locations and coordinated 2,328 employees from many countries. The work was accompanied by 4 satellites and a complete telecommunications battalion of the Bundeswehr.

These Olympic Games were overshadowed by a terrorist attack in which 9 Israeli athletes were murdered after being taken hostage .

1976 appointed the North German Broadcasting. Horst Seifart as editor-in-chief of regional television. The one close to the Liberals succeeded Erhard Herzig ( SPD ).

In addition to working for the region, Seifart continued to devote himself to sport. In his writings and lectures at the University of Hamburg, he mainly dealt with the theoretical accompaniment of the subject of sport and the media . The University of Hamburg awarded him an honorary doctorate for this work. He made it possible for some of his students to enter the media world.

As a member of the “Church and Sport” working group, he also contributed his knowledge and ideas, as well as in political working groups of various political parties.
