Origin and style

On Host , Paradise Lost made a complete departure from metal . Passages that match the style name Nick Holmes helped create, Dark Rock , are mixed with elements of Synth-Pop similar to Depeche Mode . The lyrics remain melancholy , but without taking up the theme of death as much as on the previous ones. The album was produced by Steve Lyon, guitarist Gregor Mackintosh took over the numerous keyboard passages. The backing vocals were performed by Shereena Smith on six tracks.

reception

Allmusic's Antti J. Ravelin wrote that the album sounds like Depeche Mode with distorted guitars. The record is a big step for the band , there are no boring moments. It awarded three out of five stars. Boris Kaiser wrote in Rock Hard : “The host is at the same time suitable for background music, for intensive listening pleasure and for the nice hours for two. Which album has such all-rounder qualities these days? ”The rating was 8.5 out of ten points.
