Hoyt Bohannon
Hoyt H. Bohannon (born May 22, 1918 in Daytona Beach , Florida , † December 17, 1990 in North Hollywood , California ) was an American jazz and studio musician ( trombone , arrangement , also trumpet ).
Live and act
Bohannon grew up in California and worked as a trombonist (and occasional trumpeter) in Harry James' orchestra in the early 1940s . From 1941 he did military service in the Army Air Corps, where he played in the Air Corps Orchestra. After his release he worked with Paul Whiteman and as a studio musician with Warner Bros .; from 1944 he also played in the bands of Al Lerner , Benny Goodman , Artie Shaw , Buddy Baker , Jerry Gray , Woody Herman , Neal Hefti . Freddie Slack . He has also accompanied vocalists such as Frances Wayne , Kay Starr , Billy Eckstine , Peggy Lee , Frank Sinatra and Mildred Bailey .
He later worked as a freelance musician for both television and symphony orchestras (such as the Glendale Symphony Orchestra during the 1960s and 1970s ). From the 1950s to the early 1970s he was also involved in recordings by Louis Bellson ( Skin Deep ), Benny Carter ( Cosmopolite , 1954), Buddy DeFranco , Ray Anthony , John Pisano , Maxwell Davis , Earl Bostic , Henry Mancini , Dave Pell , Frank Capp , Earl Hines and Tutti Camarata involved. In the field of jazz he was involved in 129 recording sessions between 1941 and 1972. At his home in North Hollywood he regularly played his own arrangements and works by Tommy Pederson ( Hoyt's Garage ) with fellow trombonists from the studios ; this resulted in Hoyt Bohannon's Trombone Symphony , a radio production from 1973.
