Huachuca City is a town in Cochise County in the US state of Arizona . At the time of the 2010 United States Census , Huachuca City had 1,853 residents.
geography
Huachuca City is located in the southwestern part of Cochise County, just north of Sierra Vista and Fort Huachuca . The Arizona State Route 90 connects the city to Interstate 10 at Benson , 17 miles away . The closest airport is Sierra Vista Municipal Airport .
According to the United States Census Bureau , the town has an area of 7.3 km²; there are no significant bodies of water.
The climate in Huachuca City is semi-arid (Bsk).
history
Huachuca City was originally a railway station on the Southern Pacific Railroad . First the place was called Campstone Station, later Sunset City, before it was given its current name. The history of the place is not only connected to the railway, but also to the neighboring Fort Huachuca , which was founded in 1877. The place is in the original settlement area of the Chiricahua , but after the Civil War many settlers came to the area and the Indians were displaced. In the Apache languages , today's place name means something like " thunder "; The nearby Huachuca Mountains also bear the name .

At the time of the United States Census 2000, Huachuca City was inhabited by 1,751 people. The population density was 241.5 people per km ². There were 844 housing units at an average of 116.4 per km ². The population in Huachuca City was 75.39% White , 6.80% Black or African American , 2.68% Native American , 1.48% Asian , 0.23% Pacific Islander , 8.17% said belonging to other races and 5.25% named two or more races. 16.28% of the population declared to be Hispanic or Latino of any race.
The residents of Huachuca City distributed to 713 households out of which 31.3% were living in children under the age of 18. 44.3% of households were married, 12.3% had a female head of the household without a husband and 39.3% were not families. 32.8% of households were made up of individuals and someone lived in 11.5% of all households aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.43 and the average family size was 3.13.
