Hubert Krier

Hubert Krier (born March 3, 1905 in Wiesbaden ; † September 8, 1994 in Munich ) was a German banker and diplomat.

Krier was the son of the banker Paul Alexander Krier (1876-1936) and his wife Marie, née Marquardt. Hubert had a brother who was five years older than him and who died in 1955. The family came from Luxembourg and had been in the banking business for several generations, after the last wars of unification, the wealth management of the grand ducal house for the private possessions in the new German Empire .

Life

Krier began to study law at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg . In 1924 he was reciprocated in the Corps Hasso-Borussia . As an inactive , he moved to the new Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main , where he became a Dr. iur. received his doctorate. He joined the banking house Gebr. Krier founded by his father and uncle in Wiesbaden at the end of the 19th century . Called up for the army (Wehrmacht) , he was used as an interpreter and liaison officer in the occupied Western European countries due to his language skills . When the Foreign Office was re-established in 1950, he followed the invitation to join the Foreign Service as an unencumbered person with good contacts . First, he headed the economic department of the German Embassy in Brussels . After five years at the headquarters of the Foreign Office , he became head of the consulate in Palermo in 1960 . In the last five years of his career he represented the Federal Republic of Germany as Ambassador to Paraguay .
