Hubert Seelow

Hubert Seelow (born September 3, 1948 in Schorndorf ) is a German Scandinavian and translator .

Life

Hubert Seelow studied Nordic Philology , German and English from 1969 to 1974 at the universities in Munich and Reykjavík . It was in 1977 at the University of Munich for Doctor of Philosophy PhD . From 1974 to 1984 he worked as a research assistant at the Nordic Institute of the University of Munich, where he completed his habilitation in 1984 and then taught as a private lecturer . From 1989 to 2016 he was Professor of Nordic Philology at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg . His areas of expertise are Old Norse and Icelandic literature from the 16th to 18th centuries and the present.

In addition to his teaching and research activities, Hubert Seelow also works as an editor and translator of fiction from Icelandic into German ; He stood out above all with his new translations of numerous works by Halldór Laxness .
