Hugó Gecse (born January 11, 1995 in Miercurea Ciuc ) is a Romanian ice hockey player who is under contract with HSC Csíkszereda , for whom he has played in the multinational MOL league since 2012 .

Career

Club

Hugó Gecse, who belongs to the Hungarian-speaking Szekler minority in Romania , began his career at HSC Csíkszereda . With the exception of a few months, which he spent in 2012 with the Phönix junior team in the Hungarian U18 league, he has so far only played for the traditional Szekler club. First he was active in Romanian and Hungarian youth leagues before making his debut in the Romanian ice hockey league in 2011 . Since 2012 he has also played with the team in the multinational MOL league . In 2018 he became Romanian champions and cup winners with the club .

International

In contrast to other Szeklers who compete for Hungary , Gecse plays internationally for his native Romania . He was already active in the junior division at world championships: at the U-18 world championships in 2011 , 2012 and 2013 , as well as at the U-20 world championships in 2013 , 2014 and 2015, he played in Division II.

Gecse made his debut in the men's national team at the 2016 World Cup in Division I, in which he also played in 2018 . After the temporary relegation, he played at the 2017 World Cup , when he was immediately promoted again, in Division II.
