Hugh Wilson

Hugh Wilson (born August 21, 1943 in Miami , Florida - † January 14, 2018 in Charlottesville , Virginia ) was an American director, producer and screenwriter.

Life

Wilson graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in journalism in 1965 . Before he became permanently active in television from the mid-1970s, he worked in advertising.

In the United States he is known as a producer and screenwriter for the television series Frank's Place and WKRP in Cincinnati . After the end of these series he began working as a director and made his debut as a film director in 1984 with the first part of the Police Academy film series. Most recently he directed the film Mickey in 2004 . He taught screenwriting for film and television at the University of Virginia .

In 1988 Wilson was awarded an Emmy for his television series Frank's Place . He also received the Humanitas Prize in 1981 and 1988 .

He has short appearances in many of his films.

Wilson was married and had five children.
