Hugo Boettinger
Hugo Boettinger , also Böttinger (born April 30, 1880 in Pilsen , Austria-Hungary ; died December 9, 1934 in Prague ) was a Czech painter.
Life
Hugo Böttinger was the second son of the painter and photographer Josef Böttinger . From 1895 he studied at the Prague School of Applied Arts with Felix Jenewein and Emanuel Krescenc Liška and from 1899 to 1902 at the Academy of Fine Arts with Maxmilián Pirner . Boettinger traveled to Paris with his friend TF Šimon (1877–1942) and was also in London, the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. He was a member of the artists' associations Spolek výtvarných umělců Mánes ( SVU Mánes ) and Sdružení českých umělců grafiků Hollar ( SČUG Hollar ). In 1907 he became a corresponding member of the Hagenbund . Boettinger was elected a member of the Czech Academy of Sciences and Arts .
Boettinger drew his friends and Czech personalities , preferably with a quill pen . Under the pseudonym Dr. Desiderius published his caricatures based on the style of the Munich Simplicissimus in the Prague newspapers and were also reprinted in anthologies. His female nudes, painted in oil, are, however, idealized.
Boettinger was married to Růžena Ottová (1887–1964) (later remarried as Pelnářová), who outlived him by three decades.
