Hugo Gschwind

Hugo Gschwind (born September 10, 1900 in Therwil ; † January 7, 1975 in Münsingen , resident in Therwil) was a Swiss politician ( Catholic Conservative ).

Life

Hugo Gschwind was born on September 10, 1900 in Therwil as the son of master plumber Heinrich Anton Gschwind and Mathilde née Gschwind. After attending school in Therwil and Basel , Hugo Gschwind began studying law in Basel, Paris and Madrid , which he completed in 1924 with the academic degree of Dr. rer. pole. completed.

He then worked for banks in Paris, Berlin and Basel. In addition, he took further studies in England and Spain . After a brief employment in the Basellandschaftliche Kantonalbank , Gschwind acted as SBB General Director from 1949 and from 1951 to 1965 as President of the SBB General Management entrusted with the management of the Finance and Personnel Department. Gschwind saw SBB as a company in the traditional sense. To this end, he was president of the international railway association between 1963 and 1964. Most recently, he was president of the Swiss commercial bank from 1965.

Hugo Gschwind married Verena, née von Blarer, who was born in Aesch in 1945 . He died on January 7, 1975, four months after he had turned 74 in Münsingen.

Political offices

Hugo Gschwind was elected in 1936 as the first representative of the Catholic Conservative Party to the government council of the canton of Basel-Landschaft , to which he belonged until 1949 and which he chaired between 1940 and 1941 and 1944 and 1945 . As head of the Interior Department, he was responsible for the war economy . In addition, he sat on the National Council for the canton from 1939 to 1943 .
