Hugo Kämper

Hugo Johannes Kämper (born June 13, 1845 in Minden ; † May 6, 1926 in Berlin-Grunewald ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

After attending grammar school in Minden, Kämper joined the Westphalian Fortress Artillery Regiment No. 7 of the Prussian Army as an officer aspirant on April 11, 1865 . In the war against France in 1870/71 he was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd class. From March 29, 1892, Kämper commanded the 2nd West Prussian Field Artillery Regiment No. 36 , was appointed commander of the 15th Field Artillery Brigade in Strasbourg on July 20, 1897 and was promoted to major general shortly afterwards . By renaming this large unit, the 30th Field Artillery Brigade was formed on October 1, 1899 , and Kämper continued to function as its commander. In recognition of his achievements, he received the Order of the Crown, 2nd Class with Star, on January 19, 1901 . On April 18, 1901 Kämper was with the character as a lieutenant general for disposition made.

Kämper had been married to Caroline, nee Luyken, since 1873. Her only son Max died on November 10, 1916 as a first lieutenant in the reserve at Sailly-Saillisel on the Western Front during the First World War . They had two daughters, Elisabeth and Anna Kämper.
