Hugo Schulz (doctor)
Hugo Paul Friedrich Schulz (born August 6, 1853 in Wesel , † July 13, 1932 in Berlin ) was a German pharmacologist and privy councilor.
Life
Hugo Schulz, son of a Rhineland lawyer, came from an old Rhineland family. He studied medicine in Heidelberg and Bonn . In Bonn he worked in the Physiological Institute of Eduard Friedrich Wilhelm Pflüger (1829-1910). In 1877 he received his doctorate .
Schulz became professor of pharmacology at the University of Greifswald in 1882 . He worked on the phenomenon of hormesis . Together with Rudolf Arndt , he developed the Arndt-Schulz rule in 1899 . His successor was Otto Riesser in 1921 .
Hugo Schulz had been a member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina since 1892 . His grave is in the old cemetery in Greifswald.
Schulz was married to the daughter of Friedrich Mosler , the privy councilor and former director of the Clinic for Internal Medicine in Greifswald. His daughter Adeline (Ada) (* approx. 1885) married the surgeon Ferdinand Sauerbruch in Greifswald on January 3, 1908 , who had come to Greifswald in 1905 as a senior physician and became friends with Schulz there as a young private lecturer, where he also met Ada got engaged. Adeline Schulz, Schulz's only child, worked scientifically with her father in Greifswald.
