Hugo Prinz (born January 8, 1883 in Stettin , † March 19, 1934 in Kiel ) was a German ancient historian .

After attending Wilhelms-Gymnasium in Stettin up to high school graduation in 1901, Prinz studied in Freiburg i. Br. And in Leipzig . During his studies he became a member of the Zaringia Freiburg Academic Association . In 1906 he received his doctorate in Freiburg under Ernst Fabricius . From November 1, 1906 to April 1, 1908, Prince was a scientific assistant at the Berlin museums . In 1908/09 he received a travel grant from the German Archaeological Institute . On October 25, 1910, he completed his habilitation in Breslau . From November 1, 1911 to March 1, 1913 he was a research assistant during the excavations of the German Orient Society .

In the winter semester of 1914/15 he was the professor of Max L. Strack , after whose war death he was professor of ancient history at Kiel University from April 17, 1915 until his death 19 years later . During this time, Prinz published almost nothing, and his response from the Kiel students was very low. Rather unusual for an ancient historian at the time, he had been concerned with archaeological sources and the Middle East since his habilitation. He died at the age of only 51. His successor in Kiel was of all people Paul Strack , the son of Max Strack.
