Humbert II (Savoy)
Humbert II of Maurienne or of Savoy, called the Strong or the Fat (* around 1060 in Carignano , † October 14, 1103 in Moutier , France) was Count of Savoy and the only son of Amadeus II and his wife Johanna von Geneva .
Life
Humbert II was the sixth Count of Maurienne , also lord of Bugey , Aosta and Chablais, and from 1078 to 1080 Margrave of Susa and, as the son of Amadeus II, also Count of Savoy . He initially intended to take part in the First Crusade , but stayed in his homeland between 1098 and 1100 and died on September 18, 1103. He was with Gisela, a daughter of Count Wilhelm I of Burgundy , married, with whom he had several children:
- Amadeus III. (* 1092 or 1095; † August 30, 1148 in Cyprus), who succeeded his father
- Wilhelm († 1130) became Bishop of Liège
- Renaud or Rainald became head of the Abbey of Saint-Maurice in Valais

Humbert's alliance policy was oriented towards France, where he was able to marry his daughter to the king - also in order to be able to defend the interests of the House of Savoy in Italy.
