Humbertus Guilelmus de Precipiano
Humbertus Guilelmus de Precipiano ( also: Humbertus Wilhelmus de Precipiano ; born September 12, 1627 in Rougemont , † June 9, 1711 in Brussels ) was a Roman Catholic bishop and Spanish-Dutch government official.
Life
Precipiano was trained in philosophy and theology at the Jesuit school in Leuven in Konstanz and Besançon . Then he went to the university in Dole . There he obtained a licentiate in law and a doctorate in theology . He was ordained a deacon on March 25, 1661 , then a priest on March 27, 1661 . A career in the Metropolitan Chapter of Besançon followed . There he was successively canon , archdeacon and dean .
Precipiano was appointed Abbot of Bellevaux by King Philip IV and was appointed Councilor for Church Affairs at his Burgundy court of Dole. Thereupon, in 1667, the king sent him to the permanent Reichstag in Regensburg as an agent for the Free County of Burgundy . Five years later, in 1672, he was called to the king's court in Madrid . There he was the leading councilor for the affairs of the Spanish Netherlands and Burgundy.
On December 7, 1682 appointment Percipianos done for Bishop of Bruges , to which he on March 21, 1683 ordained was. On July 12, 1689 he was elected Archbishop of Mechelen and confirmed as such in 1690. His term of office was marked by the fight against Jansenism , which was spread among other things by French refugees. Among other things, he held three episcopal meetings in 1691, 1692 and 1697. In 1703 he succeeded in arresting the leading Jansenist Pasquier Quesnel .
He was buried in the cathedral of Mechelen .
