Huntes barrier
The Hunte barrage at Elsfleth at the mouth of the Hunte in the Weser is used particularly in storm surges the flood protection of the Hunteniederung between the mouth Hunte and Oldenburg , and thus also the flood protection of the cities and Oldenburg Elsfleth.
In addition to the Huntes barrage , two other barrages were built in the Lower Weser area in the 1970s , the Lesum barrage between the northern Bremen districts of Vegesack and Burglesum and the Ochtum barrage near Lemwerder - Altenesch .
The Huntes Barrage was planned by the Federal Waterways and Shipping Administration (WSV) and the subordinate departments, the Northwest Waterways and Shipping Directorate and the Oldenburg Waterways and Shipping Authority at the time. The operator of the barrage is the Lower Saxony State Agency for Water Management, Coastal Protection and Nature Conservation (NLWKN) with the Brake operating point .
The Huntes Barrage was built from 1976 to 1979 and put into operation on October 1, 1979. It is 119 meters wide in total and consists of two shipping openings (one for each direction of travel), each 26 meters wide, as well as two stream openings arranged on both sides, each 20 meters wide.
The shipping openings can be closed with two-part mortise gates , the stream openings with convex curved locking gates.
Above the barrage there is a service bridge, which is designed as a roller bascule bridge over the shipping openings . The two bridges over the shipping openings are 32 meters long and can be raised almost vertically. As a result, the hunt barrier can be passed almost constantly by shipping through the two openings in the middle of the barrier . The bridges over the power openings are solid.
If shipping traffic permits, the bridges are closed every hour on the hour for five minutes so that pedestrians and cyclists can get to Elsflether Sand , a peninsula between the Hunte and Weser rivers created by the Weser dykes .
In order to hinder shipping on the Hunte as little as possible, the Huntes barrier is normally open. The locking mechanism is closed when on the Weser water levels of NN +3.0 meters (equivalent water levels of 0.9 meters above mean high water ), or are expected higher. The closing process does not begin until the tide rises, when a water level of +2.80 meters has been reached at the external barrier. However, if it is certain that the peak value of the flood does not exceed +3.1 meters, it is also possible to dispense with closing the barrage in the interests of shipping.
If the hunt barrier has to be closed for a long time, the water from the hunte cannot drain. In order to prevent the flooding of built-up or otherwise used areas, flood areas are provided below Oldenburg that can absorb the water. These polders can also be flooded when the flood is very high, if the barrier does not yet need to be closed.
Technical specifications
- Width of the barrage: 119 meters
- Width of the shipping openings: each 26 meters
- Width of the side openings: each 20 meters
- Height of the pillars (above the base): 53.6 meters each
- Length of the roller bascule bridges: each 32 meters
- Closure of the shipping openings: each 12.7 meters high
- Closure of the side openings: each 12.4 meters high
- Closing times:
- Closures: 5 minutes each
- Bridges: 2 minutes each
An originally planned lock for shipping was dispensed with at the Huntes Barrage, as the closing times can usually be kept relatively short due to the availability of sufficient polders, so shipping is only slightly hindered.
