action

A teacher named Richard moves from New York City to a small town in Texas and starts working on a new school. Shortly thereafter, Richard is outed and released from school, which is legal under state law in Texas. Richard feels the need to take revenge on the people who hate him and returns to school as Bianca Del Rio - Richard's drag persona.

background

The film touches on serious social issues, such as the fact that 29 states in the United States make it legal to fire someone if they're gay. Del Rio said before the film was released: "It's a serious topic, but it's done in a funny way." Director Kugelman said he hopes the film will shed some light on workplace discrimination in the United States: "My hope is that Hurricane Bianca will change minds and bring awareness to the issue. The film deals with a serious topic in a comedic way. "

The film's budget was largely covered by extensive crowdfunding measures. Planning for the film began even before Del Rio won RuPaul's Drag Race . Kugelman wrote the lead role especially for Del Rio: "Tall, slender and glamorous, but with the mouth of a truck driver, I immediately thought that Bianca was a total movie character, and that this would be the story that I develop for my first feature . " For winning the show, Del Rio received a cash award of $ 100,000 and generated additional exposure for the film. In addition to RuPaul , other well-known drag race alumni could also be cast: Willam Belli, Shangela Laquifa Wadley , Joslyn Fox and Alyssa Edwards .

After a short theatrical release, the film was offered as video-on-demand from September 23, 2016 . The DVD release followed in October 2016.
