Chjussein Mechmet Alisch * 25. January 1924 in Razgrad , Bulgaria ; † 9. March 2014 in Istanbul , Turkey ) was a Bulgarian wrestler of Turkish ethnicity. He won a silver medal in free style heavyweight at the Melbourne Olympics in 1956 .

Career

Yussein Mechmedow belongs to the Turkish minority in Bulgaria . When he first appeared on the international wrestling mat in 1955, he was already over 30 years old. The reason for this is that Jussein Mechmedow initially only worked in the Turkish national sport of oil wrestling. Only when Olympic wrestling was intensively promoted in Bulgaria at the end of the 1940s did he also deal with the Greco-Roman and free styles.

In 1955 he first appeared on the international wrestling mat and won the Greco-Roman heavyweight division at the World Youth Festival in Warsaw . Style in front of none other than the Soviet master Iwan Bogdan . In 1956 he started at the Olympic Games in Melbourne in both styles. In the Greco-Roman style he was defeated by Wilfried Dietrich from Germany and against Anatoli Parfenow from the Soviet Union and came in 8th place. In the free style he was much more successful, because he won four fights and was only defeated by the Turkish Hamit Kaplan , who became Olympic champion . But winning the silver medal was a great success for Jussein Mechmedow.

In 1957 he competed in the Free Style World Championships in Istanbul . He won three fights there, fought against Wilfried Dietrich and the Soviet champion Iwan Wychristschuk and was defeated again against Hamit Kaplan. Hamit Kaplan was world champion ahead of Wilfried Dietrich and Jussein Mechmedow.

In other international championships he was no longer at the start because he was replaced in Bulgaria by Lyutvi Dschiber Akhmedov and Radoslaw Kassabow . At international tournaments, however, he still had great success.
