I'm Shipping Up to Boston is a song written by folk singer Woody Guthrie and folk punk band Dropkick Murphys . It was released in 2005 on the band 's album The Warrior's Code . The play tells the story of a sailor who is desperately looking for his wooden leg in Boston .
