The iPad 4th generation , for the launch in October 2012 as an iPad with retina display called, is the fourth model of the iPad - Tablet computer series of the US company Apple . It was presented to the public by Tim Cook on October 23, 2012 , it could be pre-ordered from October 26, 2012, and delivery took place from November 2, 2012. On January 29, 2013, Apple subsequently presented the iPad with 128 GB of storage space, the was sold from February 5, 2013. Along with the launch of the iPad Air, sales of the fourth generation iPad were discontinued. On March 18, 2014, sales of the 16 GB version were reintroduced to replace the iPad 2, and the iPad Air has now moved to this place .

The 4th generation iPad has an aluminum back and optionally a white or black edge of the front glass pane around the screen. A home button is attached to the lower center edge, and an orientation lock switch is located on the right side of the case next to the volume rocker. A camera with 5 megapixels is installed on the back and another camera with 1.2 megapixels is installed on the front in the middle at the top of the screen. There is also a mono microphone and a 3.5 mm jack connector on the top. A mono speaker is installed on the bottom next to the Lightning dock connector . The device is mainly operated by touching the screen.

Apple offered the 4th generation iPad as a 16, 32, 64 or 128 GB version without a modem. Additionally, there is an iPad with CDMA - Modem and 0.7, 0.85, 1.8, 1,9 and 2.1 GHz LTE (model A1460), and for the American market one with 0, 7 and 1.7 GHz LTE and UMTS modem (model A1459). All devices use micro SIM cards with the form factor 3FF (12 mm × 15 mm). In Europe, A1460 models can only use the 1.8 GHz LTE band 3, as the other LTE frequency bands commonly used in Europe are not supported. The 4th generation iPad only supports Deutsche Telekom in Germany . In some European countries (including the Czech Republic), however, the 2.1 GHz LTE band 1, which is also supported by the A1460, can be used. The A1459 model does not support an LTE band commonly used in Europe. Apple states up to 10 hours of battery life when surfing the Internet via WLAN and up to 9 hours when using a 3G data network. The lithium polymer battery has a capacity of 42.5 Wh. In addition to the cellular modem, Apple built in an A-GPS module. Devices without a modem also have the digital compass.

System-on-a-chip is the Apple A6X with a 1.4 GHz dual-core processor "Apple Swift". There is also an SGX-554 graphics processor with four cores.
