I Stand Alone is a song by the American rock band Godsmack . The song and was released as a single in May 2002 . In the United States , the single was awarded a gold record . In addition, the song was nominated for two Grammy Awards .

Emergence

In 2002 singer Sully Erna received the offer to compose the soundtrack for the film The Scorpion King . Chuck Russell , the film's director, is a fan of the band and originally wanted to use the song "Voodoo" from their debut album . Since the song was already several years old at the time, Russel asked Erna to rearrange the song. Erna declined and presented Russel with "I Stand Alone", a new song he had written.

The text is about the main actor of the film The Scorpion King . According to Erna, it is a big, strong personality who has a sensitive side hidden inside. He feels isolated and likes to do things on his own. The song was recorded at The Hit Factory Criteria recording studio in Miami . The production took Mudrock. The music video for the song contains clips from the film. It was directed by brothers Greg and Colin Strause.

In addition to the soundtrack for the film The Scorpion King , the song was also released on the third studio album by Godsmack Faceless , released in 2003 .

The single reached number 70 in the Dutch and number 98 in the German single charts . For over 500,000 units sold, the single was awarded a gold record in the United States. In 2003 the song was nominated at the Grammy Awards for Best Rock Song and Best Hard Rock Performance . However, the prizes went to Bruce Springsteen and the Foo Fighters . The US online magazine Loudwire published a list of the ten best songs by Godsmack in April 2015. "I Stand Alone" reached number one on this list.
