action

Florian Herbst is actually happiest when dad is not at home. Then he can dance around the apartment with his mom, put on crazy costumes and forget his worries. Hanno Herbst can't really do much with his son either. He has two left hands, a stomach that is much too big, is not interested in sports and is gay. Not that bad! There is still mom. She holds the fragile family harmony in check with tender dominance and protects her two men from each other. At least until one terrible morning the house of cards collapses and Mama disappears from one second to the next. The film tells how father and son remain overwhelmed, learn to deal with their fate and slowly find each other.

Director's comment on the film

“'Make a movie about what you know about.' This is what my Professor Rosa von Praunheim used to say to us students. Such a film has become 'I feel disco'. Full of memories. Full of scenes and feelings that I am very familiar with: A young person who is in the middle of self-discovery, who is offensive to his father, who has discovered his sexuality and has just found it again. A boy who loses a loved one, often feels lonely and in love with the wrong person ... It can hardly be hidden that a lot about this Flori resembles Axel and a lot about Hanno resembles my own papa. And yet, over the four years I worked on this story, the characters have become emancipated. After all, my two main actors Heiko Pinkowski and Frithjof Gawenda have filled this father-son duo with a life of their own, with humor, fantasy and charm. "

criticism

"Perhaps that is the greatest art of film: processing human tragedies with trashy scenes into a confused, sad and comical story, the ironic breaks of which do not change the fact that the characters honestly love each other."

- Anne-Sophie Balzer: The time

“And so 'I feel disco' moves confidently in the field of tension between comedy and tragedy, between adolescence drama and hit film, as well as surrealism, insanity and practical reason. With the effect that you leave the cinema exactly as the film title promises. "

- Harald Peters: The world

“Axel Ranisch's film 'I feel disco' tells a classic story of growing up with a lot of humor and a feeling for the extraordinary in everyday life. The improvised dialogues are particularly successful, the ensemble plays authentically and at times conveys a family image that sometimes seems like a documentary. "

- Kathrin Horster: Stuttgarter Zeitung
