Ignacio F. Iquino
Ignacio Farrés Iquino (born October 25, 1910 in Valls , Catalonia , † April 29, 1994 in Barcelona ) was a Spanish director , screenwriter and film producer .
Life
In his youth, Iquino turned to painting and music and gained recognition as a painter and decorator before devoting himself to his great calling in 1934: the cinema. In 1934 he founded his production company Emisora Films . The first film she produced was Al margen de la ley , one of the greatest hits of the 1930s.
After the Spanish Civil War , Iquino took up his production and directing activities to a greater extent and shot successful comedies ( Alma de dios , 1941; Los ladrones somos gente honrada ; 1942) and melodramas ( Una sombra en la ventana ; 1944). With great instinct for the needs of the public at that time, he also produced patriotic works ( Noche sin cielo , 1947) and was the founder of the Spanish crime film ( El obstáculo , 1945; Brigada criminal , 1950). In 1952 he created the religious film El Judas, a highly controversial work that also had censorship problems. Iquino, who always came to terms with the political situation, mildly criticized society and politicians.
At the beginning of the 1960s, Iquino also recognized the commercial possibilities of the spaghetti westerns and produced quite a few of them; ten years later he was one of the first to adapt the wave of sex films for the Spanish market. With the end of the dictatorship, he even turned to porn film until he ended his career in 1984.
In his long creative period he scripted around 100 films and directed almost 90 - their quality varies considerably; In the German-speaking area, however, almost only a few of his westerns ran.
He used various pseudonyms for the international market, for example Steve M (a) cCohy , Steve McCoy or John Wood .
