Rancheros (Original title: La diligencia de los condenados ) is a spaghetti western from Spanish-Italian co-production. It was created in 1970 under the direction of Juan Bosch and was premiered in German-speaking countries on November 26, 1971.

action

Dangerous criminal Anthony Stevens is in jail on a murder charge. There is only one eyewitness to the crime who is expected to arrive by stagecoach. Ramón, who is friends with Stevens, tries to save his neck by robbing the stagecoach and holding all passengers at a horse changing station run by Robert Walton. To find out who was the eyewitness to the murder, Ramón has his people terrorize the passengers; they do not shrink from murder either.

Walton is actually the well-known gunslinger Wayne Sonnier, who was believed to have died some time ago after a duel with Stevens. At first powerless because he is unarmed, he manages to get hold of a gun and shoot Ramón just like his people. Stevens, meanwhile released due to lack of evidence, learns about this and wants to avenge his friend Ramón. In the final duel, Sonnier proves to be the clearly better shot.

criticism

According to the dictionary of international films , the film is a “tough and lengthy Euro-Western” . The Segnalazioni Cinematografiche were more favorable: “A very well-made Western, not without powerful sequences; however, some fringe episodes and lengths slow the pace. "

Remarks

The film was made entirely in Spain, inspired by a story by Lou Carrigan (i.e. Antonio Vera Ramírez); the interior shots were shot in a house in Matadepera near Barcelona. Outdoor shots were taken in Esplugues de Llobregat , the Los Monegros desert and the “Parc naturale de Sant Llorenç del Munt i l'Obac ”.

The information in some Italian sources mention some other staff information compared to other directories.
