Luciano Martino

Luciano Martino (born December 22, 1933 in Naples , † August 14, 2013 in Kenya ) was an Italian film producer , screenwriter and film director .

Life

Martino, nephew of director Gennaro Righelli and brother of Sergio Martino, studied political science before he came into contact with the film business at the age of 21 as Luigi Zampa's assistant . He developed the treatments and scripts for many films; from 1962 on he worked as a producer of current genre films; In 1972 he founded his own company, "Dania Film". By the new millennium, he worked in various functions including distribution of an enormous number - his filmography comprises about 350 titles - of works of any genre in charge of spy movies and spaghetti westerns over Gialli and police films to barbarians movies and - he is considered a co-inventor of the Genres - Sexy Comedies . Occasionally he continued to work on the script.

After the heyday of the genre film came to an end, Martino switched to the productions of respected filmmakers such as Pupi Avati , Francesco Rosi , Francesca Archibugi or the Taviani brothers.

Martino is considered one of the great independent producers in his country. He also directed seven times himself, initially together with colleague Mino Loy under a common pseudonym.

For a while he was in a relationship with his frequent lead actress Edwige Fenech .
