Perseus - the Invincible (original title: Perseo l'invincibile ) is a historicizing adventure film with fantasy elements, which Alberto De Martino directed in 1963. The film opened in German-speaking countries on May 22, 1964.

action

The king of Seriphos has to pay enormous tribute money to the ruler of the neighboring kingdom of Argor, Akrisios. His son Galenor fights the king's soldiers and throws them before a dragon or exposes them to Medusa.

Meanwhile, the simple fisherman Perseus has no idea of ​​his origin, which makes him the rightful holder of the Argor throne. The beautiful Andromeda, daughter of the king, loves Perseus, but is promised to Galenor by her father, after his son also becomes a victim of Medusa, because the king believes he can appease Akrisios.

Perseus defeats Galenor in a tournament; who flees when he recognizes Perseus, but who follows him and has to fight the dragon, which gives the usurpers time to attack Seriphos. Perseus can also defeat Medusa and can take on the liberated army to liberate Seriphos. Akrisios and Galenor perish; Perseus will now rule with Andromeda.

The Monthly Film Bulletin considers the film to be “pure routine, with the usual flat dialogues, superficially staged fight scenes and boring camera work”. The lexicon of international films also found it to be a "muscle and sandal film" based on the conventional pattern.
