Ignatius Harsono

Ignatius Harsono (born December 15, 1922 in Delanggu , Indonesia , † March 1, 2000 ) was Bishop of Bogor .

Life

Harsono was born the oldest of four children and entered Yogyakarta Seminary in 1948 . He was ordained a priest on January 6, 1958 . From 1959 to 1964 he continued his studies in the area of ​​socio-political issues in Leuven, Belgium ; the political situation in his home country meant that he was only able to return to Indonesia in 1966. In 1968 he became episcopal vicar and rector of the Bogor seminary. Harsono also taught sociology at the Institute for Philosophy and Theology there, and in 1973 he became Vicar General of the Bogor diocese.

Pope Paul VI appointed him on January 30, 1975 Bishop of Bogor. He was ordained bishop on May 8th of the same year by Justinus Cardinal Darmojuwono , Archbishop of Semarang . Co - consecrators were Vincenzo Maria Farano , Apostolic Pro-Nuncio in Indonesia, and Leo Soekoto SJ , Archbishop of Jakarta . In 1989, Harsono hosted the Conference of the Federation of Asian Bishops' Conferences. On July 17, 1993, Pope John Paul II accepted the resignation he had submitted for health reasons.

Ignatius Harsono died in 2000 at the age of 77.
