Ignatius P. Lobo

Ignatius P. Lobo (born April 27, 1919 in Siolim , Goa , India , † February 17, 2010 in Hubli-Dharwad , Karnataka ) was Bishop of Belgaum .

Life

Ignatius P. Lobo was in his theological education in Bombay on December 21, 1947 Valerian Cardinal Gracias for priests ordained. From 1953 to 1961 he was secretary to Valerian Gracias. From 1962 to 1974 he was director of Caritas in India, from 1974 to 1977 its general director. He was also a member of Caritas International and from 1970 to 1978 Vice President of Caritas International for Asia and Oceania.

On September 26, 1967 he was by Pope Paul VI. appointed bishop in Belgaum . The Apostolic Pro-Nuncio in India , Giuseppe Caprio , consecrated him on June 2nd of the next year in the Fatima Cathedral in Belgaum; Co- consecrators were William Zephyrine Gomes , Bishop of Poona , and Longinus Gabriel Pereira , Auxiliary Bishop in Bombay .

On December 1, 1994, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.
