The diocese of Belgaum ( lat. : Dioecesis Belgaumensis ) is in India situated Roman Catholic diocese based in Belgaum .

history

The diocese of Belgaum was on September 19, 1953 by Pope Pius XII. Erected from cessions of territory by the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Bangalore as a suffragan . On January 24, 1976, the Diocese of Belgaum gave up parts of its territory to establish the Diocese of Karwar . Another assignment of territory took place on June 24, 2005 to establish the Gulbarga diocese .

The diocese of Belgaum includes the districts of Belgaum , Bijapur , Bagalkot , Dharwad , Gadag and Haveri in the state of Karnataka and the Tehsil Chandgad in the state of Maharashtra .
