Ignaz Schwörer

Ignaz Schwörer (born July 30, 1800 in Freiburg im Breisgau ; † December 23, 1860 in Freiburg im Breisgau) was a German gynecologist and obstetrician .

Live and act

Ignaz Schwörer was a childhood friend of the mathematician Karl Wilhelm Feuerbach . From 1816 he belonged to the Corps Rhenania Freiburg , from 1818/1819 to the Old Freiburg Burschenschaft and from 1821 to the Youth League .

Before May 1824 he was promoted to Dr. med. PhD . In May 1824 he was due to illegal and state hazardous compounds in custody and was on 26 August 1825 by the Upper Rhine Hofgericht Freiburg because of high treason , sedition and Fried fracture to two years imprisonment convicted, he on the fortress Kisslau was serving. He was pardoned on November 22, 1826.

Ignaz Schwörer deduced 1829 provisionally from the Chair leached of Surgery Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the University of Freiburg i. Br. In 1831 he published his book Principles of Obstetrics in its entirety and in 1832 became the first professor of obstetrics at the University of Freiburg i. Br. He was the director of the obstetrical clinic, which under his leadership grew significantly . In 1838 he was appointed district chief healer.

Ignaz Schwörer was dean of the medical faculty in 1835/1836, 1841/1842, 1852/1853 and 1857/1858, dean of the faculty of philosophy in 1847/1848 and was vice-rector at the head of the university in 1845/1846 . In this function he played a role in Heinrich Schreiber's ban on lectures .

Ignaz Schwörer was a Knight of the Order of the Zähringer Lion .
