Igor Nikolajewitsch Samoilow achieved his international successes all between 2002 and 2005 and was after Andrei Markow the most successful representative of his sport. At the 2002 World Championships in Pokljuka , he won the singles title ahead of Markow and Daniele Conte and in the relay race with Mikhail Voronin , Ivan Maslennikow and Markow. Behind Voronin and Markov, he also won the bronze medal in the mass start race. He also won the overall rankings in the individual and sprint disciplines in the World Cup . A year later he won his second gold medal with the relay at the World Cup in Krün on the side of Vladimir Fomitschow , Maslennikow and Markow. In 2004 the Russian won the mass start race in Pokljuka ahead of Volodymir Osadchij and Maxim Menshikov and also won the bronze medal in the pursuit race behind Markow and Andrej Zupan , after narrowly missing a medal in fourth place in the sprint. With Maslennikow, Igor Borissow and Markow Samoilow also won his third gold medal in a mass start race. The last world championships were the title fights of 2004 for Forni Avoltri . Samoilov won the relay gold again alongside Pavel Borodin , Vladimir Evtjukov and Menshikov. Behind the outstanding athlete of the games, Borissow, who won all individual gold medals, he secured the silver medal in his parade discipline of the mass start behind Borissow and ahead of Edmund Martin .
