The Ikarus C22 is a two-seat microlight aircraft . It was built by Comco Ikarus between 1982 and 1992 .

construction

The C 22 is a braced high- wing aircraft and consists of bolted aluminum tubes . Screws and fittings are made of stainless steel . The wings and tail unit are made of polyester cloth and mesh foil. It is mostly driven by a Rotax 582 and four-blade propeller or a Rotax 912 with a three-blade warp drive . The high speeds of the Rotax engines are reduced by means of a gearbox (3.47: 1 for the Rotax 582, 2.27: 1 for the Rotax 912). Other approved engines are the Rotax 462 , theBMW HB 1000 and the Sauer S 1800 .

Incidents

  • On June 1, 2008, a C22 B took off from the Sauldorf-Boll microlight airfield on a sightseeing flight to Lake Constance . About twenty minutes after take-off, the aircraft was observed about 8.5 km southwest of the airfield as it tried to fly slowly and low over a row of trees. The machine brushed against a branch, then began to roll around its longitudinal axis and finally fell into an agricultural building. The 58-year-old pilot and his passenger were fatally injured.
  • On June 28, 2009 a C22 C took off for a sightseeing flight from Greiz-Obergrochlitz airfield . Shortly after take off, the pilot reported engine problems. About fifty meters above the ground he made a right turn, hit a tree with his left wing and fell. The 53-year-old pilot and his passenger were seriously injured in the impact.
  • On September 12, 2010 a C22 B took off from the Reiskirchen microlight airfield on a training flight. At a height of around sixty to seventy meters, there was initially a loss of power and finally an engine failure. The flight instructor took over the controls to make an emergency landing in a field . Due to a lack of speed, however, he was unable to initiate an interception maneuver. The aircraft hit the ground hard with the nose wheel first and then overturned. The 69-year-old flight instructor was seriously injured and the 50-year-old student pilot was slightly injured.
