Ilhéu das Lagoínhas is an uninhabited rocky island a good 300 meters north of the Azores island of Santa Maria .
geography
The 1.5 hectare island rises steeply from the sea about 450 meters from the northern tip of Santa Maria and reaches a height of 84 m .
fauna
The island and the neighboring coastal strip of Santa Maria are designated by BirdLife International as Important Bird Area PT069 "Ilhéu das Lagoínhas e Costa Adjacente". The area has an area of 210 hectares. The yellow-billed shearwater , the little shearwater and the rose tern breed here .
