The Ilhéu de São Lourenço , also called Ilhéu do Romeiro , is a small island off the east coast of the Azores island of Santa Maria . It belongs to the municipality of Santa Bárbara in the district of Vila do Porto .
The rocky island is located at the southern end of the Bay of São Lourenço, a little over 100 m east of the Ponta Negra headland. The steeply rising round island with a narrow headland facing east has a stalactite cave accessible to boats .
The Ilhéu de São Lourenço is part of the Reserva Natural da Baía de São Lourenço protected area of the IUCN Category V ( Protected Landscape ) .
