The Ilhéus das Cabras (Portuguese, German 'goat islands') are two uninhabited islands in the form of a double island, the remains of an extinct crater in the Atlantic . They are a good 1000 meters off the southeast coast of the island of Terceira , the third largest island in the Azores .
The up to 147 m high double island, formerly used by shepherds and goat herders, is located southeast of the city of Angra do Heroísmo . It belongs to the Freguesia Porto Judeu and is privately owned. The Ilhéus das Cabras are part of the Parque Natural da Terceira (Terceira Natural Park). BirdLife International identifies them as Important Bird Area PT081. Yellow-billed shearwaters , common terns , rose terns , rock pigeons and whimbrels can be found here .
