Ilisia

Ilisia ( Greek Ιλίσια ) is a district of the Greek capital Athens .

Ilisia is located about 1.5 km east of central Athens. The neighboring neighborhoods and communities include Ambelokipi , Goudi , Zografos , Kesariani and Pangrati .

etymology

The district takes its name from the Ilisos River . This rises from the Hymettos Mountains and flows through Ilisia from east to west.

Villa Ilisia

Ilisia is one of the most densely populated districts of Athens with mostly closed buildings and few public green spaces.

In Ilisia is the Villa Ilisia, built by the French philhelleness Sophie de Marbois-Lebrun , which today houses the Byzantine and Christian Museum .

Ilisia is accessed through the Megaro Mousikis station on line 3 of the Athens Metro , which is located on the western edge of the district.

Ilisia is home to the popular sports club Ilisiakos, founded in 1927. This maintains u. a. Departments in the sports of basketball , soccer , volleyball , handball , water polo or swimming . The most important players that the club has produced include European basketball champions Antonios Fotsis and Efstratios Perperoglou . Other important athletes are Ioannis Athinaiou , Georgios Bogris and Elini Dimoutsos .
