The pancratium illyricum ( Pancratium illyricum ) is a plant type from the family of Amaryllidaceae family (Amaryllidaceae). It is also called the Illyrian pancreatic lily .

description

It is a perennial herbaceous plant that reaches a stature height of around 40 to 60 cm. The geophyte forms an onion. The leaves are 1.5 to 3.5 cm wide and about 30 to 60 cm long. The star-shaped, hermaphrodite, threefold bloom has six uniformly shaped bracts tepals , is about 15 cm wide and is white.

Flowering time is May (April to June depending on the location).

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 22.

Occurrence

The species is distributed near the coast on sandy soils on the islands in the Tyrrhenian Sea ( Corsica , Sardinia , Capri and Tuscany ). Coastal dunes and dry soils in blazing sun are preferred as locations. Corsica is the only island on which this species also inhabits rocky areas up to about 1300  m .
