Ilse Hehn (born May 15, 1943 in Lovrin , Kingdom of Romania ; married Guzun-Hehn ) is a German writer and visual artist .

Life

Ilse Hehn was born in the German-speaking Romanian Banat . Her mother's ancestors come from Alsace-Lorraine . After the family fled to Austria from the Russian Red Army , they returned to the Banat at the end of World War II.

Ilse Hehn attended the German elementary school in Sânnicolau Mare and then a German humanistic high school in Timișoara . After graduating from high school, she studied fine arts at the Western University of Timișoara and graduated with a state examination. From 1965 to 1992 Ilse Hehn taught art and art history at the German high schools "Stefan Ludwig Roth" and "Axente Sever" in Mediaș / Transylvania.

In 1973 Ilse Hehn made her debut with the volume of poetry So Far Der Weg nach Ninive . She published regularly in the German-language publications of Romania and was a member of the Timișoara literary circle Adam Müller-Guttenbrunn . In 1974 the composer and writer Wolf von Aichelburg set a cycle of poems by the author to music.

Since 1976, when she became a member of the European authors' association “ Die Kogge ”, she was in the crosshairs of the Romanian security agency Securitate . A few years later, after she was supposed to write a contribution to the anthology Das verfolte Wort for Die Kogge , the Securitate filed a “dossier of informative persecution” against her. Since then, the environment of the "target person" Hehn has been staffed with informal employees who dealt with the operational implementation of the surveillance on behalf of the authority. In 2011 the “National Council for the Study of the Archives of the Securitate” [“Consiliul naţional pentru Studierea Arhivelor Securităţii”] released their files for inspection in Bucharest.

After the Romanian Revolution in 1989 , Ilse Guzun, meanwhile widowed, received an exit permit and moved with her son to the Federal Republic of Germany, where she took her previous name Hehn. She lives as a writer, visual artist and art lecturer in Ulm .

Two of her children's books were published in Romania . Her poems have been translated into Romanian, French, Russian, Serbian, Hungarian and Japanese languages. Ilse Hehn is Vice President of the Exile PEN - Section German-Speaking Countries. She is the sister of the art historian and writer Annemarie Podlipny-Hehn . Ilse Hehn is a member of the Exil-PEN and Romanian Writers 'Association, the European authors' association Die Kogge , the "European Writers 'Congress" and the Esslingen Artists' Guild .

Ilse Hehn lives in Ulm .
