"The tiger of the Lord of Grimmelshausen" art path at Mummelsee, Ilse Teipelke

Ilse Teipelke studied sculpture at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart . She taught at the Puppet Theater College in Bochum and at the Bremen University of the Arts (with Anna Oppermann and Eva-Maria Schön ).

“Der Berg”, her performance for documenta 8 , was the result of sound experiments with terracotta pieces. This “invention” is the sound of ceramic parts immersed in water. Depending on the material used, its shape and the temperature at which it was fired, an unbelievable variety of sounds can be heard during this immersion process due to the escaping air. Reinforced via a mixer and visually experienceable in detail through micro-recordings by the artist Hella Böhm, the sound pieces by Ilse Teipelke open up an area of previously unheard music from inside the earth.
