Ilse Thouret (born August 19, 1897 in Hamburg ; † January 20, 1969 ) was a German motorcycle and automobile racing driver , athlete and sports journalist.

Life

Ilse Thouret grew up as the daughter of the wealthy businessman Heinrich Randad and his wife Caroline Magdalene nee. Kahl (1870–1952) together with six siblings in sheltered circumstances. At the age of eleven she became Hamburg gymnastics champion in 1908. In 1917, at the age of 20, she began her hockey career, initially at Uhlenhorster HC in the first women's team. Motorsport

When she received her first motorcycle, a 750 cm³ Mabeco , in 1927 , she was fascinated. In addition to her work as a trainer for the German hockey team and head of all women's hockey training in the German Reich (from 1930 to 1943), she achieved second place in the team class at DMV Winterfahrt in 1932 . She tried to take part in a circuit race in Farmsen, but officials forbade the start after Ms. Thouret had achieved the fourth fastest training time in the team class. After that, she concentrated on off-road sports . She won the race Heidberg ( Falkenberg / Elster ) in the sidecar class on a 600-cm³- DKW -Gespann and was soon after 1933 Puch - factory driver .

In 1934 Ilse Thouret set a new record in the German Reich by completing her second Grand Golden Sports Badge in just 34 minutes. From 1934 to 1939 she worked as a factory-assisted driver for Auto Union -DKW and took part in the international six-day drive . In 1938 she made her debut as a racing driver in a Hanomag sports car at the Balkanique Rally together with Christel Meinecke . This was followed by an honor by King Paul of Greece . A year later, together with the Golden Motorsport Badge, she was the first woman on a motorcycle to receive the city of Hamburg's highest sports award: the sports medal in silver.

The Thouret Trio

After the Second World War, from 1950 Ilse Thouret formed the Thouret women's trio with her daughters Anneliese (born September 9, 1920) and Elga (February 5, 1922 - February 8, 2016) for NSU - Lambretta at national rallies. In 1951 the Thouret trio became the official German Vespa team, they became German DMV ambassadors in Italy and won gold medals in the Germany trip and the "8-hour Solitude trip".
