The Imperator was a German passenger steamship . After the First World War , she sailed under the French flag as a Welcome .

history

The Imperator , built on the Stettiner Oderwerke with shipyard number 464, was put into service in March 1897 by the Stettiner Steamship Company JF Braeunlich . It was used in regular service between Saßnitz and Trelleborg until 1908 , then between Stettin and the seaside resorts of Rügen . The Imperial Navy captured the steamship on August 8, 1914 and started it up as an auxiliary hospital ship "D" with 156 hospital beds and 26 medical personnel.

After the First World War, the shipping company initially got its ship back, but had to deliver it to France on March 14, 1919. The ship became the property of the French government and was initially managed by E. Genoud from Brest . 1924 was shipping company Genoud & Cie. from Cherbourg owner of the ship renamed Welcome . In 1924 it became the property of Cherbourg Maritime S.A.

The Welcome was dismantled in 1935 at a scrapping yard in Grays .

technology

Two triple expansion steam engines with a combined output of 1,800 hp drove two propellers . The ship thus reached a speed of 15  kn . About 600 passengers could be accommodated.
