In your hands (in the original: Forbrydelser ) is a Danish dogma film by the director Annette K. Olesen , which was shot in 2004 in Denmark .

action

Anna has just finished her theology studies and surprisingly receives a substitute post as a pastor in a women's prison. At the same time, Kate is taken to prison. The film alternately depicts the situation of the two women. Anna approaches her new job full of optimism. Although she appears above all sympathetic and open and often preaches the Christian forgiveness of all guilt, the film also shows some scenes in which she acts vainly or unprofessionally, is overwhelmed or looks down on the inmates. In her private life Anna tried unsuccessfully to get pregnant for a long time. Unexpectedly, a pregnancy test now turns out positive. Anna becomes interested in Kate when she learns that Kate is said to have psychic powers and that Kate actually correctly predicts that she is pregnant. The inmates report that Kate survived her own drug withdrawal in one day and can help others with withdrawal. Kate herself is very reserved and quiet, but becomes trusting as the other inmates increasingly seek her closeness. At the same time, Kate falls in love with a prison guard. In this way, Kate slowly approaches several people, but at the same time has to hide the fact that she let her daughter die during her drug addiction. Such an offense turns an inmate into fair game. The conflict between Anna and Kate arises when Kate learns of a genetic defect in her embryo and considers an abortion. It becomes clear that she cannot handle guilt - her own and Kate's. Before her abortion appointment, she goes to jail drunk and yells at Kate in her cell that she let her daughter die of thirst. The other inmates now know about Kate's crime and isolate her. Kate then commits suicide.
