history

description

Compared to their debut album from last year, Supertramp , the band's personalities for the recordings for the album Indelibly Stamped were changed: The still young group also included their two founding members, composers and singers Rick Davies (keyboards, harmonica, vocals) and Roger Hodgson (acoustic , Bass and electric guitars, vocals), whereby the latter switched from the bass guitar as the main instrument to the electric guitar, replacing Richard Palmer, who had switched to the band Emergency . Then there were the new band members Kevin Currie (percussion instrument, drums), who took Robert Millar's place, Frank Farrell (accordion, bass guitar, piano, harmony vocals), whose main instrument was the (Rogers) bass guitar, and Dave Winthrop (flutes, saxophones, vocals ). The band had gone from a quartet to a quintet .

In contrast to the progressive rock album Supertramp, which is rooted in the style of bands like King Crimson , Indelibly Stamped leans much more towards blues rock and rock 'n' roll stylistically . The change in musical direction was mainly due to Rick Davies' stronger vocal and compositional involvement .

With the exception of Rosie Had Everything Planned , written by Hodgson and Farrell , all songs were composed and written by Hodgson and Davies. The latter sang their own songs, except for Potter, which was sung by Winthrop.

For the first time, a later trademark of the band, the saxophone , was integrated on this album . In songs like Forever, which was released as a single with Your Poppa Don't Mind as the second song, and Times Have Changed , another stylistic device of the later Supertramp can be heard for the first time: Davies' staccato- like e-piano . Another single was Your Poppa Don't Mind with Rosie Had Everything Planned as the second song.

Both singles were just as unsuccessful as the album Indelibly Stamped. Only with the follow-up album Crime of the Century did the band break through in 1974.

Album cover

The album Indelibly Stamped received some public attention because of the album cover , which shows the tattooed, naked torso of a woman: The model Marian Hollier from Bristol had her naked torso photographed for a fee of 45 pounds.
