Inga Sempé (* 1968 ) is a French product designer who designs furniture, lamps and other design objects for manufacturers such as Ligne Roset , Alessi (design) and Baccarat . In 2007 she received the Red Dot Design Award .

Life

Inga Sempé was born in 1968 as the daughter of Mette Ivers, a Danish graphic artist and painter , and the well-known French graphic artist Jean-Jacques Sempé . She studied at the Ecole Nationale Superieure de Création Industrielle (ENSCI) in Paris and graduated there in 1993. She is married to designer Ronan Bouroullec and has two children. Inga Sempé lives and works in Paris .

Professional background

In 1994 she made designs for the Australian designer Marc Newson , and from 1997–1999 for the French designer Andrée Putman . From 2000 she worked for the Italian design firms Cappellini and Edra and at the same time founded her own company in Paris. Their ideal is durable, simple, but not minimalist objects.

Function is important to her, the materials have to support it: "Sempés lamps can be pulled out like accordions, her prototype case for Via is height-adjustable and replaces any hotel cupboard." She designs furnishings and design objects for Italian, French and Scandinavian design companies, for example for Alessi (design) , Ligne Roset , Baccarat , Tectona, LucePlan, Mustache and the American manufacturer Artecnica.

Works

Many of their lamps have shades that are reminiscent of fans and allow a diverse play of light and shadow. The Plissé pendant lamp by the manufacturer Luceplan can be extended like an accordion because the material is pleated . In 2009 the lamp manufacturer Mustache brought the Vapeur hanging and table lamps onto the market. Shades made of tightly folded Tyvek fleece are characteristic of this . The thin, paper-like material is either white or printed with very fine lines in delicate colors.
