Inge Blum
Inge Blum (born February 24, 1924 in Ludwigshafen am Rhein ; † August 12, 2011 ) was a German sculptor who lived and worked in Mainz .
Many of her works were installed in public spaces on streets and squares in Mainz and in the entire Rhine-Main area .
Life
Inge Blum came to study art at the Landeskunstschule Mainz in 1947. There she studied from 1947 to 1951 with Professor Heinz Müller-Olm . Your fellow students were u. a. Heinz Hemrich and Reinhold Petermann .
After the end of the Second World War , the "Education Publique" in Baden-Baden promoted the artistic departure phase in the French occupation zone , to which Mainz also belonged. Since October 1946, Heinz Müller-Olm worked as a lecturer in sculpture as one of the first teachers at the now “State Building and Art School” in Mainz, which was designated as the capital. Inge Blum, who later married him, was also impressed by his pedagogical instinct, which was characterized, among other things, by carefulness and patience in dealing with talents.
A grant from the French government made it possible for the artist to study at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Paris from 1954 to 1955 , where she learned new techniques as a pupil in Ossip Zadkine's sculpture class . Here, more in opposition to her teacher, she developed her personal style.
When she returned to Mainz, she worked as a freelance sculptor. In 1979/1980 Blum attended the International Summer Academy for Fine Arts in Salzburg . Her work with clay is well known . Over the years she developed an unmistakable style, determined by the torso and the fragment . Numerous sculptures in public areas, including the larger-than-life "Guardian" (1991) in front of the New Fire Station in Mainz-Bretzenheim and the bronze sculpture of a "Bajazz" at Schillerplatz (Mainz) .
Inge Blum died in 2011 at the age of 87.
