Ingelheim-West is a district of the city of Ingelheim am Rhein in the Mainz-Bingen district .

The place, which was never independent, was created in the 1960s through the construction of several settlements in the Nieder-Ingelheim district.

geography

The district is located on the northern rise of the Westerberg . To the east is the Boehringer Ingelheim plant , which also represents the border to Nieder-Ingelheim . From here, the area extends west to the Sporkenheim district and the neighboring town of Gau-Algesheim . From the foot of the Westerberg the area of the district extends north to the A 60 and borders on Frei-Weinheim here . Ingelheim-West borders on Ober-Ingelheim to the southwest .

The soil in Ingelheim-West is very sandy, which is due to the low amount of humus and loess in the poor soils, which were created by huge dust storms in the Ice Age. To the east of the Rheinstrasse, remnants of the once closed pine forest are still preserved.

history

The district, which developed in the Nieder-Ingelheim district in the middle of the 20th century from the so-called Dietrich-Bonhoeffer housing estate , is the youngest district of the city of Ingelheim. This settlement was built in 1963 on the former site of the Rhenania chemical factory . In another settlement called In den 100 Morgen , a large number of homes were built south of Bingerstrasse near the red turret for immigrants of peasant origin from the lost eastern territories with the help of state grants. With the exception of the few town houses on Rheinstrasse, there is no historical building stock in this district, as most of the buildings were built in the 1960s.
