Ingo Swoboda

Ingo Swoboda (* 1961 in Eltville am Rhein ) is a German journalist and author .

Life

After school and high school at the Rheingau-Gymnasium in Geisenheim , Swoboda began studying law and political science at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz . For one year he was a scholarship holder at the law faculty of the University of Dijon in Burgundy . During his student days Swoboda wrote small articles for various newspapers and discovered his passion for journalism. After graduating, he decided against a legal career and completed a two-year traineeship at Umschau Zeitschriftenverlag in Frankfurt am Main . Until the end of 1997 he worked as an editor for an international magazine for fashion and accessories. In addition to this activity, which took him on many trips around the world, Swoboda wrote as a ghostwriter for celebrities and published his first wine books. In early 1998 he became deputy editor-in-chief of the wine magazine Alles über Wein . Swoboda has been working as a freelance journalist since January 1, 2000.

In addition to his work as a journalist, wine and restaurant critic, around 80 culinary books from his pen have appeared so far. Some of them have won prizes at the Frankfurt Book Fair, in London and in Switzerland. Swoboda wrote portraits of the cooks Dieter Müller , Johannes King , Kolja Kleeberg , Ali Güngörmüş , Thomas Kammeier , Harald Rüssel , Christian Jürgens and Holger Bodendorf . For the Süddeutsche Zeitung Ingo Swoboda wrote the only "Library of Cooks" so far, a culinary journey of discovery in 20 volumes through the best kitchens in Germany. His standard work on "Riesling" was awarded as the best German wine book, the "Weinatlas Deutschland" was awarded in 2008 in London as the "Best Wine Atlas in the World". His champagne book is also decorated with the “World Cookbook Award”. As a wine critic and author, Ingo Swoboda is jointly responsible for the annual Feinschmecker WeinGuide.

Ingo Swoboda is a member of national and international tasting juries .

For his commitment to Riesling, he was awarded the promotion prize for journalism in 2006 by the "Pro Riesling" association. As a moderator of culinary events, Ingo Swoboda is a regular guest at the Rheingau Gourmet Festival.
