Union Internationale des Architectes
The Union Internationale des Architectes (UIA) is a non-governmental organization and the largest international association of architects in the world, based in Paris .
overview
The UIA was founded on June 28, 1948 in Lausanne and had 27 member delegations when it was founded. Today (2013) it represents more than 1 million architects from 124 countries. The UIA is recognized by most of the specialized agencies of the United Nations including UNESCO , HABITAT , ECOSOC and UNIDO as well as the WHO and the WTO as the only association in its field.
To promote architecture and the profession around the world , the UIA focuses on architectural education, professionalism and the organization of international competitions as well as the awarding of awards.

Congresses
The UIA organizes world architecture congresses every three years through one of its member organizations. Along with the Congresses, the General Assemblies will be held at which the President, Vice-Presidents and Council members and the Secretary General will be elected. UIA awards
The following awards are given by the UIA every three years:
- “ Auguste Perret Prize” for architecture-related technologies
- "Sir Patrick Abercrombie Prize" for town planning or territorial development
- “ Jean Tschumi Prize” for architecture criticism or education
- "Sir Robert Matthew Prize" for improving the quality of human living space
UIA gold medal
Since 1984, the organization has also awarded the UIA gold medal to honor an architect (or a group of architects) who have made a name for themselves with their buildings and their work through the high quality of their services to mankind and society (to honor an architect (or group of architects) having distinguished themselves through their work and professional practice by the quality of services rendered to man and society) .
