26 women took part in the qualification. From this, at least the two Czechoslovakians Iva Budařová and Katařina Skronská , the Argentine Viviana Gonzales and the Australian Nerida Gregory qualified for the main tournament. The French Brigitte Simon also got there as a lucky loser .
