The airport "Nursultan Nazarbayev" ( Kazakh Нұрсұлтан Назарбаев Халықаралық Әуежайы Nursultan Nazarbayev Chalyqaralyq Äujeschajy , Russian Международный аэропорт "Нурсултан Назарбаев" Meschdunarodnyj Aeroport "Nursultan Nazarbayev" ) ( IATA : NQZ , ICAO : UACC ) is an international airport, the Kazakh capital Only -Sultan (formerly Astana) served.

With 4.3 million passengers in 2017, it is the second largest airport in Kazakhstan after the airport in the former capital, Almaty . It has a national and an international terminal .

history

The airport's history dates back to 1931 when the city's first airfield opened. In 2005, the airport buildings were replaced by a new building to meet international airport standards.

The airport is a so-called "Silent Airport". There are no announcements, all announcements are only displayed on monitors.

The airport is one of the two hubs of the national Kazakh airline Air Astana , which flies from here to 14 national destinations, including Almaty or Karagandy and several cities in Europe and Asia . The most important destination from Nursultan Airport is Almaty with 135 flights a week. In the German-speaking area, Frankfurt is served by Air Astana. Lufthansa also offers the same route. Other important European destinations are Paris-Charles de Gaulle (Air Astana), London-Heathrow (Air Astana) and Istanbul (Air Astana and Turkish Airlines ).

Nursultan was a Lufthansa Cargo hub for flights to all of Asia.
